When choosing the interior design of a home, lighting is a key factor. Bathrooms are no different. Bathroom lights should not only reflect the flavor of a home but also be selected for illuminating the person using them. Lighting in a bath should not allow more than 24 to 36 square inches of space per light.
Ceiling lights and wall sconces are good for the majority of the bathroom light fixtures. A ceiling light directs the light downwards, and its high position allows for a good repartition of light in the entire room. Sconces offer indirect lighting, and provide a decorative solution, when they are placed properly. You can opt for halogen bulbs that diffuse a light close to daylight.
Shower lights can be a good addition for shower enclosures. But the bathroom vanity light deserves the most focus. Vanity lights should be focused on the person. It is the face that must be lit, not the mirror. In this area light must be flattering, without shadows or artifice. But be careful, a light coming from above creates shadows and accentuates dark eye circles. When positioning one above the mirror (if you must), the bar light should be mounted so that the most light is on the forehead. Vertical lights placed on each side of the mirror allow for a more even lighting. Shadows are eliminated when light is coming from several directions. Your vanity mirror should certainly have a 3 point lighting.
Fluorescent is the last choice one should make for bathroom lighting. This type of light changes the appearance of colors and let’s be frank it makes people look a little sad. A truer light, such as a halogen or incandescent bulbs, is more desirable.
Some Bathroom lights have been immortalized in the image of the famous artist’s mirror with two rows of round low power incandescent bulbs, and we should not forget that, as this type of lighting still offers the best to apply make up.
