It does not sound very elegant, but it can be a very good buy on carpet for a small area, and if you need to stay on a budget for your flooring selection. Merchant who provide carpet installation are sometimes left with a certain amount of carpet on the roll when they finish the job. They resell these remnants to other customers at tremendous discount. These discounts do not in any way reflect on the quality of the material, only on the fact that it was ordered by someone else and it is left over. You can in fact find excellent quality for a very low price by shopping for remnants, and often end up with a higher quality.
Why or when would you want to use a carpet remnant?
Obviously you would not be able to find a piece large enough for an entire house, but if you only had to do one room, this is an excellent way to save money.
Sometimes it can be used to add a decorative (different color) around the edges of a room, it is a very effective personal touch to a room carpeting.
You can also have a remnant edged as an area rug. Much cheaper than buying a rug, and you might find a pattern that is not normally available for rugs.
They can be used for stair runners, as doing stairs requires that the carpet be cut in smaller pieces.
Shopping for carpet remnants is not always as easy, as it is for standard stock. You might have to visit several local stores before you locate what you need. There are also some internet merchants that specialize in remnants. Prices will vary from store to store depending on size and quality, however you can expect to pay 75 to 80% less than you normally would for the same size and quality carpet.
