So you are facing into a dirty house and you are allowed one item of your choice in order to clean it. What will you choose? The mop and bucket, the duster, the sweeping brush, the scouring pad, the cobweb brush? Beyond any doubt and without even having to think about my answer, I would select a vacuum cleaner.
More specifically I would select a central vacuum system, but in a pinch I would settle for a mobile vacuum cleaner also. Any vacuum cleaner will do most of the cleaning tasks around your home and a vacuum cleaner covers the greatest area of ground in the home also. Most of the other items that I mentioned in the previous paragraph do have very specific roles to play in cleaning your home, but these can in the main be covered by the vacuum cleaner, with the possible exception of the scouring pad.
One of the reasons that I would favour a central vacuum system over a traditional vacuum cleaner is that there are so many accessories that are available with central vacuum systems, that a good central vac system really can do most of the cleaning tasks. You can get accessories for such individual tasks as grooming pets, cleaning pet hair off furniture and carpets, cleaning window blinds, dusting and cleaning crystal, cleaning upholstery and curtains, cleaning compter keyboards - the list just goes on and on. Added to this is the fact that central vacuum cleaners are much more powerful than mobile vacuums and have their motor located away from the living area of the house, making them much quieter than a traditional vacuum and you can see why I would favour a central vacuum system.
The arrival of the mobile vacuum heralded a new age in the cleaning of residences. The arrival of the central vacuum system has introduced an even better era where a vacuum system really can be considered the ultimate cleaning machine for your home.

I love central vacuums! I got to use one for the first time over the holidays and they are so nice. I love how easy it is to use and how strong they are. At first I was confused as to how it worked but once I learned how to use it, vacuuming got so much easier. I love these kind of vacuums.
