In a previous post I suggested that easy centerpiece ideas are often the best ones, and one idea mentioned in that post uses frosted fruit arranged on a pretty dish or plate as the centerpiece for your table. Of course the fruit can still be eaten (if you wish to remove the sugary coating you simply have to rinse the fruit in warm water.)
Here is the easy frosted fruit recipe to make frosted fruit that are as delicious as they are beautiful.
Préparation : 20 minutes to 1 hour depending on how much you want to make
No cooking needed
Ingredients :
- Fresh fruit (you can use any fruit you like, apples, pears, strawberries, grapes, cherries, oranges, lemons… whole, not cut)
- Egg white (non beaten)
- Sugar (using turbinado sugar can add variety)
Preparation :
- Wash the fruit and dry thoroughly.
- Place the egg white in one bowl and the sugar in another (do not beat egg whites.)
- Using a cooking brush spread egg white all over the fruit one at a time, then roll fruit in sugar.
- Let stand until sugar is crystallized on the fruit and make a good crust.
- Leave the fruit on parchment paper for at least a few hours in a dry area.
- Dispose your fruit delicately on a pretty plate, add a few ribbons and make a great looking centerpiece for your dinner party.
Notes:
*Alternatively you can use lemon juice on fruit instead of egg white for people who might be allergic to eggs.
**You can also frost mint or basil leaves to use as decoration.
*** Do not refrigerate as humidity will melt the sugar.
**** Presented in a pretty box or basket these make excellent gifts at Christmas time or any time.
