Most people like to decorate the house for the Holidays and for many this is the time they will use special holiday table runners, even if they do not normally use table runners. There is something about a red or green table runner that right away makes the house more festive and spells out the Christmas season. One motif that is frequently found is more winter than holidays and can be used for a longer time, is the snowman. It also has the advantage of being more universal.
This is also a family time and bringing out grand-ma’s old crocheted table runner might give your family a warm feeling. Lace and crochet table runners have an old time feeling and are often more delicate, thus people tend not to use them year round.
In our family special days also include birthdays. I have an embroidered table runner that says “You are Special”, and when the kids were little they always loved it when I put it on the table for their birthday. If you value your sanity and you linen, I don’t advise you to use a fine table runner for the kids birthday party. When 10 or 12 kids are around the table you can count on some accidents.
