Do you remember the exhilarating feeling of blowing on the seed of a dandelion? There is not a child who can pass a dandelion without blowing on it, and I feel the same way. It is magic! It sends little rays of light everywhere. But, if you live in the city and if you are older you might not get the chance to do it very often. So designers Qin Xue, Cao iXiaoxiao and Wei Hangshuai inspired by this wild flower and our proclivity for this activity have created Secret of Light, a jewel of a lamp, poetic and brilliant to take us away back to our childhood dreams.
To light it, you only need to shake it gently by the stem, just as would the gentle spring breeze. And when you are done dreaming and it is time to turn it off blow on each bulb that make up the flower. With the caress of your breath the light dims and dims until it is no more.
Reality is returned and we look at what makes it work. It is an ingenious use of motion captors that activate the lights. But I prefer the idea of magic that bridges modernity, fun and technology with nature and dreams, I like where modern lighting is taking us.
