What do you think about when I say rocking chairs. Chances are you think about an elderly person sitting on a porch in an old rocker or you think about a mom in a nursery rocking a baby to sleep. Well rocking chairs have changed and while we do not think that the minimalist approach to design is suited to the lifestyle we imagine when we say "rocking chairs", the rocker is still around, still rocking, and beautifully so. You can still buy traditional rocking chairs, however I present you a couple of definitely modern, well designed and well made rockers.
From a point of view of design this chair deserves its name "Magic Chair". The Magic ™ Chair is the product of designer Dripta Roy. It is all wood and inspired by the Russian dolls that stack inside each other. This is a perfect solution for small space living. When you buy this chair you are getting 4 chairs for the price of one, more importantly you use very little floor space when the chairs are not all used. Designed to fit perfectly into each other they are functional and stylish.
I think it is a very ingenious concept for people in small apartments who lack the space and need some flexibility when they have a crowd.
Here is another resolutely modern rocking chair designed by Scott wilson and presented at Yanko Design. A minimalist approach in two colors. The structures is white lacquered metal with smooth lines and a polyurethane mesh seat and back, that gives it comfort and sturdy pliability. A futurist rocking chair that only begs to be produced. Introduced at Yanko Design
The concept is also in place for a rocking love seat. Who said you would have to rock alone.
