We tend to forget it but the esthetic of a beautiful bouquet is entirely dependent on the flower vase that is used. It is however often difficult to make a decision, when we are faced with the vast multitude of vases in the flower shop. Here are a few tips to make the task of choosing a vase a little easier.

Choose your flower vase in function of the floral composition.

There is one golden rule for choosing a flower vase: for a bouquet to have proper harmony, the vase must be about ⅓ of the total composition, and the flowers must be 2/3. This proportion must be kept whether you are looking at the height of the bouquet of the width for round and short bouquets.

You should know that conical containers are perfect for wild flowers, and romantic bouquets without formal arrangement.

Cylindrical flower vases, and tubular vases can be used to display a single flower with a strong presence, like an arum, a gladiolus, or exotic flowers. Short round vases are better suited for light flowers with soft petals, like anemones.

You can recycle almost any container to use as a flower vase. Look for old soup servers, glasses of different shapes and sizes as well as small water can, square tea boxes and anything that will hold water.

Trends are not limited to the types of containers that you can use for flowers. Coloring water for flowers, using small stones or pebbles in a glass jar, using square colored gelatin pieces, branches… are all trendy ways to show off flowers in your home today, and to create a home decor around a bouquet.

One last bit of advice: have fun with flowers. The most important is that your floral composition makes you happy.
