Decorative and practical, these are two reasons why every home needs an area rug somewhere. Especially if you have hardwood floors in your dining or living room. Here are a few pointers to help you in deciding what kind of rug you should buy.
The first consideration that you must ponder is the shape of your rug. If traditionally rugs used to be rectangular, it is no longer the case you can now find round rugs, square or even hexagonal.
The next thing that should get your attention is color. You should look at your current scheme and try to match the rug to existing pieces. If your room decor is rather neutral in tones then you are free to choose any color you want.
Size is another factor that is not easily overlooked. It is obvious that you need a rug adapted to the size of the room. You should measure the piece of furniture that will be placed on the rug and add about 24 inches on each side of it to calculate the size of the rug you need. If you are going to use a round rug you should then add 48 inches to the diameter.
And lastly you should consider the rug's fibers. Resistance, density and the look of the rug will depend on the fibers you choose, as will the price. Synthetic fibers are less expensive than natural fibers like wool or bamboo. It is important to get all the information you need about the fibers if a rug with mixed fibers is the object of your interest.
