Wool rugs, or silk, bamboo, cotton or even synthetic fibers, any area rug can change the whole look of your room while adding comfort to your environment. They attenuate noise, and protect the floor at the same time. Children love to lie down on the floor to watch TV, to read or to play, a rug adds a layer of insulation between you and the ground and keeps you warmer. Here are a few tips to choose, protect and keep your rugs in great conditions.
Wool rugs, the majesty and benefits of natural fibers
Warm and soft, wool rugs are a touch of luxury to any room where you place them. They do cost more than man-made fibers rugs, but you should consider that wool is a naturally durable and resilient material. The value for the amount you spend remains close to what you spend on synthetic fibers because you will replace your rugs less frequently, specially if you buy a machine made wool rug.
Depending on the design you choose, they fit well with any modern or contemporary decor, and you can find a motif to fit any style you want.
Another advantage of choosing wool for your rugs is that they are easy to care for, in spite of the fact that they are less impervious to spots than synthetic fibers. However, colors on wool rugs are more sensitive to sunlight, and humidity. You should not choose wool if your home is humid as wool tends to absorb and retain humidity, and you would run the risk of mildew or mold. Lastly you should remember that some insects like moths love wool, you should then choose a rug that has been treated against moths to prevent all inconveniences.
Wool rugs are elegant and deserve to be protected
An elegant wool area rug, be it a rectangular shape, or a round rug, is not just a decorative element, it is thus important to protect it against wear. The most common elegant wool rugs are oriental carpets. To protect and preserve these precious rugs you should use a rug pad between the floor and the rug. A pad will increase comfort and isolate the rug from the floor. The rug will then not need to be deeply cleaned so often. A deep cleaning once or twice a year is sufficient. A good elegant wool rug should probably not be placed in the highest traffic areas of your home. Avoid hallways and areas that have heavy furniture as marks can be damaging. To prevent furniture from crushing the pile of your rug you can add felt on the bottom of chair legs, and pieces of carpet under the heavier furniture pieces.
